The Flower Vendor

To the flower Vendor:

This is a true story.

As an obedient kid during my childhood, getting flowers for the Friday Pooja was my duty.

I used to generally take a walk across the road in the morning before school and meet up with the old flower vendor.Jasmine,Rose,Thulasi,Yellow flower,Blue flower, green ones,marigold special seasonal flowers etc she had it all. I was never good at bargaining and could never imagine myself bargaining with the flower vendor.She had seen me grow from primary school to secondary and also through my college days. She knew my family also well as they also frequented her work place.

Later when I joined work which required me to stay away from my hometown, I could not do the weekly chore and meet the flower vendor.

After a few years when I came back to my hometown I visited the same flower vendor. Now this time I observe that she has much older look on her face which was already wrinkled earlier. To my surprise she did recognize me and enquires about my family and my well fare.

I visit her again later in the week and she enquires about my wherabouts, my family and my job. I go about answering and bragging about what I do in life not even realizing the listener might not even understand what I actually do. She smiles and wishes me luck with a blessing gesture that elders usually give to the young.

After that I used to visit the shop quite often and every time she has the same set of enquiries”How are you, what do you do, are you studying or working, how is your sister”. I politely acknowledge her with the same answers everytime.I still get the good luck gesture.

It took a few visits for me to realize that she was losing her memory, the memories of recent past but not of earlier ones. I came to understand that she has vivid memories of me as a child but she is not able to register anything that has happened in the recent times

Tears fill my eyes every time this realization occurs, though I do nothing about it.

The only thing I do is keep answering her repeated questions whenever I visit her without a cross face and receive her warm wishes.

This is to the Flower Vendor!!!

Revival –The Beach Story

Not withstanding the unremitting demands of my inner self, I had to finally give in.
The ill-famed act of procrastination had to be put to an END. I decided to try earnestly this time.

I quickly seized my darling hand phone and did some thumbing so that she would just be up to win the race against the “first ray of light” which otherwise would win the game, in trying to get me out from my ever drawing sheets .Luckily for me, the little master of the geek was successful this time.

I lazed into my sneakers and plugged the earphones with a grunge list ready to be played on my lil yet big music machine which began its day transforming the electricity into sound waves without any impediment.

Within the next 6 minutes,the rendezvous was set to happen.

The yearning and the long wait had to end.
Endearment had to take over the two separated ones.

It was just like good old times,a feeling that brings old chums to strike the chord just from wherever it had to be resumed.

Though it was me who stayed away,she was always there waiting and always ready to shower her embrace upon me. The openness with which she accepted me moved me into tears.Then there was instant magic.The persistent disturbance that used to dwell inside me disappeared like it knew no bounds and was carried away by a whiff of fresh air.

Just then I exhaled a sigh of relief.

It was now that I realized her magnanimous great hearted self-it was no less than NATURE itself.

Yes it was her !!!

I was able to feel here now,she started opening up like never before with an eternal effort to try to make a connection with every soul which visited her-

Really inching towards me!!!

I started to reflect her in my eyes.There she was flaunting her blue self-
The vastness of the skies!!!

I heard her voice now-similar to the sound of air filling in and out of the lungs-
The sound of waves!!!

My olfactory sense smelled her wet presence that rose from the deepest of the deep-
The Redolence of the wet sand!!!

I looked up to her,I roared,I cried,I bowed with a surrender,I laughed with tears rolling down my cheek.
There I was returning then with a sense of fulfillment,with my heart feeling lighter,I carried a mature me now-a discovery by itself to forgive my bad deeds and to carry on with the good ones.

It was truly a fruitful appointment with my friend.
It was Revival –Indeed
